Dear Keighley
I am writing to you as one of your employees, a key worker, in BT Enterprise.
I wish to put on record my deep concern and extreme disappointment at the actions BT have and are taking both in Enterprise and in the wider company. We have been keeping UK Businesses connected, reconfigured their services in the face of Covid-19 and played a key part in keeping the UK economy running in circumstances that are without precedent. Our thanks has been redundancy and attacks on our grading and terms and conditions.
The general direction of what was a blue-chip company would be disappointing under any circumstances but this is a company that has in the past successfully redeployed thousands of people and now turns to redundancy as the first response to change. A company whose workforce has played a key part in keeping Government, hospitals and businesses connected.
I have always believed that BT should engage meaningfully with my union. In doing so in the past, the company has seen over 30 years without any serious industrial conflict and a joint approach with my union to finding solutions to issues as they arise. The company’s current actions are putting all of that at risk. While others have valued my colleagues and I as key workers that have kept the country going through this terrible pandemic, the company is treating us without respect and I am asking you to STOP.
On my behalf, my union’s position in BT Enterprise is clear and reasonable.
I urge you to reconsider this course of action. I look forward to your personal response.
